New Media Classroom

Using the Who Built America?
CD-ROM in the Classroom

The Who Built America? From the Centennial Celebration of 1876 to the Great War of 1914 CD-ROM is designed for individuals who wish to expand their knowledge of American history on their own, and for coursework in a variety of subjects. Who Built America? is particularly appropriate for courses in:

  • United States History survey (since 1876, or 1876-1914)
  • American Social History
  • Labor History
  • Economics History/Economics
  • American Studies
  • Ethnic/Multicultural Studies
  • Urban Studies
  • American Government

Faculty members of the New Media Classroom program utilize the wealth of resources in WBA? to enhance and expand lectures, lessons, and units which they already use, or explore entirely new areas.  The two sample lessons are provided to give you suggestions on how this can be done.  Peruse the lessons, use some of the ideas, add your own, and make the study of history come alive, and be as exciting as the events which compose it.

We encourage you to read the essay "Who Built America? in the Classroom" written by Bill Friedheim, a professor of history and coordinator of the New Media Classroom regional center at Borough of Manhattan Community College/CUNY.
