Expanding Horizons
What Is the New Media Classroom? The New Media Classroom is a faculty development program. We help secondary school teachers and college professors integrate new media--the latest technological tools--into their humanities curriculum. We do this through regional training institutes and workshops in which we teach participants how to use the World Wide Web and innovative software programs.
What Is the Aim of the Program? Our goal is fourfold. We aid faculty in:
We believe that all teachers should have access to professional development programs on how to use the new, computer technology in their classrooms. Computer technology should be a powerful adjunct to proper classroom content and practice. We think that the new technology should be used to deepen and broaden the coverage offered by textbooks and lectures. The new technology gives students access to primary source materials at little or no cost.
We train and support teachers (graduate students, pre-service, middle school, and high school), college professors (and adjuncts), and educators at cultural, social service, and community institutions.
We are funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. NMC is a program of the Center for Media and Learning/American Social History Project, which is a center at the City University of New York, Graduate Center. The NMC was designed in collaboration with the American Studies Association's Crossroads Project, Georgetown University. | |||
